This can be done with the rear panels still in place but it’s much easier to take them off first. Brush the surface rust off of both the long and short drive shafts that attach to the wheels using a wire brush, a standard wooden handle brush may offer a better reach. To get all the way around you can either roll the car or jack up a wheel and turn it.

With all the surface rust removed you can start painting.

Go to your local DIY shop and buy Hammerite in what ever colour you want. You may need to do a second or third coat depending on the colour. Black usually covers in 1 coat but the orange in this case needed 3.

Don’t worry about getting paint on the rubber boot at each end, it can be removed easily.
