Mod Description
Is it a knob or is it a button? I just don't know. What I do know is it needs replacing.

This item can be bought only from SmartMods.

What we have here is a very simple, cheap and effective mod to replace your boring standard or boring Brabus hand brake button. There is nothing more boring in a car than grey plastic, so, if it unscrews, unscrew it and replace it with something more interesting.

Now, this isn’t a unique product. Brabus do a metal replacement but it is just a direct copy of the boring plastic one. The same can be said for all the copies floating around on eBay. All they have done is got hold of a Brabus one and copied it. Why don’t they use their imagination? Simply because they are just interested in knocking out an easy product and making money.

That’s why the R&D department at SmartMods decided to improve the design. Here’s how it looks.

The main design change is the dimple in the end, it makes the whole thing feel better under your thumb. Very much like the sort of hand brake button you got in old 60’s sports cars. A chamfer was added around the outside to compliment the Brabus hand brake handle.

Fitting is very each and is the same no matter if you have the Brabus grip or the original plastic grip. Unscrew the existing button in an anti clockwise (counter clockwise for readers West of the Atlantic, it’s also made of aluminum).

Then simply screw the new button in place. As you can see, looks way better.

It was designed mainly for the Brabus grip but works ok on the standard grip although it does have a deeper aperture so the new button doesn’t protrude as far. This doesn’t affect the operation of the handbrake.

Once fitted you’re done, simple huh! Looks good too.

For the first fortnight (that’s 2 weeks USA chaps), the unusual new tactile feel of the button made me look at it every time I used it. Now when I drive a smart without one, I can feel my thumb’s disappointment in pushing something as boring as the old handbrake button.

Do your thumb a favour and buy one. Cheaper than all the other copies. Can’t say fairer than that as it’s nicer yet cheaper than the chaff you get on eBay.
