You might not know by looking at the price but the 453 is a cheaply made car. There are a lot of “that’ll do” engineering, especially since it’s a rehashed Renault.

Manual gear shifters can feel good or shit. Being cheap, the 453 manual gearshift feels shit. However, over time, it feels worse and worse due to dirt ingress and loss of lubrication. Notice how the gearstick doesn’t self centre. After a bit of lube, it’s much better.
