If you have an EQ (electric drive) smart 453, it probably has the pedestrian warning noise maker fitted. Some countries didn’t mandate them so you’ll have to look and listen to know if yours has it.

Up until the end of 2019, the car had a switch that could be pushed to deactivate the noise maker. It’s the one nearest the door in the lower section of the dashboard. Annoyingly, this switch had to be pushed every time you started the car. When smart facelifted the 453, they removed the switch and replaced it with an indicator light.

Same look, same position but it couldn’t be pressed. This was because many countries had now mandated that electric cars required the pedestrian noise makers and that they could not be deactivated.

Adding The Switch Back To The Car

Hinge the panel down to access the rear of the switches. The one we want is the one with the green connector.
